Are you already on Meth?

Cliff Meth ForeheadClifford Meth, whose memorable surname sounds more like a recreational drug than a boy in your child’s Yeshiva, is more full of Torah than Stephen King and of no less inspired creativity. Both are published authors, have an instantly recognizable writing style and sardonic wit but you’ve probably only heard of the latter – until now.

After having spent decades honing his craft as a reporter obtaining highly exclusive interviews for the most popular entertainment mags and as an understudy to science fiction legend, Harlan Ellison, Meth has finally been optioned for big screen treatment. Variety Magazine reported that Producer Richard Saperstein has optioned the film rights to Clifford Meth’s comicbook series “Snaked” from IDW Publishing, the company behind “30 Days of Night.” From the synopsis, Snaked is a graphic novel set in the world of dirty politics, backstabbing friends and unfaithful women, where Bill Clifford Meth Profile PictureTimmons discovers that being a Snake is more than a metaphor… where he’s unprepared for what will happen when he sheds his skin and fangs start to show… and so is everyone else.

“The political arena forms the perfect backdrop for Clifford Meth’s heady mix of horror, sex and mayhem,” said Saperstein, former president of production at Dimension Films, who was executive producer for such notable films as Stephen King’s “The Mist” and sharing credits on David Fincher’s “Seven.”  “As a producer, I’m drawn to characters that are forced to explore the limits of their own humanity in situations that test their rational minds. The political arena forms the perfect backdrop for Clifford Meth’s heady mix of horror, sex and mayhem. I am also pleased to be working with Ted Adams and the folks at IDW, who are always breaking new ground in the world of comics and graphic novels.”

Meth will pen and co-produce the film with IDW Publishing’s president and co-found, Ted Adams. “If there is one thing I have learned from my experience with the filmmaking community, it is to work with the very best. We experienced that luxury on 30 Days of Night and now we’re fortunate to be partnered with Richard Saperstein, a renowned producer with a stellar track record. SNAKED is the most controversial book we have ever published and I know that Richard will bring this story to the screen with incredible style, wit and daring.”

So after reading this lovefest with Meth’s work, it would probably surprise you that not only has he dabbled with the crazy worlds of science fiction, horror and rock and roll, but he’s also authored several inspired books on Jewish subjects. One of his most recent successes, “Balm in Gilead”,  was an effort to aid the victims of terror in northern Israel. Gilead is a delicious anthology of artistic speculations and meditations that, despite theological nuances, move beyond the boundaries of culture to join in a single voice of hope.

Just to complete the picture of this eclectic and gifted wordsmith, Cliff is not on an orthodox religious Jew but he’s also one of the few black belts in Karate trained by martial arts legend, Richard Lenchus. We hope to revise this article with more about Meth and obtain a few quotes about his great body of work, which also includes his outrageously hilarious and politically incorrect blog which we’ll point you to on request of the author!
